Chemical based shampoos tend to strip most of the natural oils of the hair, leaving hair & scalp dry and prone to frizz. A good conditioner replaces some of the oils stripped from the hair during shampooing. Conditioners work by smoothing down the scales of the hair to make it look smooth and shiny. Shampoo opens the hair's cuticle, conditioner seals it back up, locking nutrients in.
Nature has some excellent emollients that are chemical free and that have been used by natives of Africa and South Asia in conditioning hair naturally. These can be found in fruit powders and butter obtained from the seeds of fruits. We bring you these conditioning agents in their raw form, without adding an chemicals.
Amla, a small berry that is sun-dried and powdered, is an excellent conditioning herb and has been used in South Asia for centuries. Regular use provides nourishment to hair and keeps it glossy and silky. Amla is also an excellent exfoliant as it contains high levels of ascorbic acid which break up the top layer of dead skin cells.
As a conditioner: After shampooing hair, mix some Amla powder with water to form a paste and then smooth over hair. Rinse well. For deep conditioning, leave on for about 5 minutes before rinsing.
For brunette tones: Mix Amla powder with Henna & Indigo mix to make a deeper brunette color when dyeing grey hair.
As an exfoliant: Amla is a natural and excellent exfoliant and astringent scrub. Mix a spoonful of Amla powder and enough warm water to make a thick paste. Scrub on face or body and rinse.
