Conventional hair dye uses ammonia to force the hair cuticle open and peroxide to strip out your natural colour. Henna works completely differently — the lawsone pigment in the leaf bonds to the outside of the hair, so there’s nothing to open, strip or bleach. No fumes, no sting, and a rich natural gloss.
If you have known allergies or a sensitive scalp, do a patch test 48 hours before a full application — good practice with any hair colour, natural or not.

None. The only ingredient is certified-organic henna powder (Lawsonia inermis). There’s also no PPD — the ingredient in dark chemical dyes most often behind allergic reactions.
Many people who react to conventional dye choose pure henna because it contains no ammonia, peroxide or PPD. Everyone’s skin is different, though — always do a 48-hour patch test first.
Henna doesn’t open or strip the hair the way chemical colour does. It bonds to the outside of the strand, coating it rather than bleaching it.
Pure henna gives red-orange and copper tones — rich red highlights on dark hair, strong copper on greys. For browns and blacks, henna is combined with indigo (sold separately).
