Natural Food Ingredients > Fruit Extracts
Fruit extracts capture the unique flavour of the fruit along with the sugar, acids and pigments and therefore preserves the nutritional value of the to fruit.
Fruit extracts are processed ingredients that offer a concentrated, easily stored and useable
form of the fruit. Fresh fruit is expensive to preserve while dried fruit is bulky and limited in
the number of applications where it can be used. Just like most preserved or frozen fruit, fruit extracts usually do not retain the aroma of the natural fruit. However, if the point of differentiation is based on taste and colour, then fruit extracts will offer a more cost effective alternative to fresh or dried fruit.
Our fruit extracts are food grade, non-GMO and Kosher certified. They are manufactured in
premises which are HACCP, ISO and GMP certified.
Fruit extracts can be obtained in many forms – we deal with the following:
Spray Dried (SD) Fruit Powders are obtained by a process where the juice from the fresh fruit is rapidly dried with hot gas. An anti-caking agent is added to ensure the powder does not lump up. The dry fruit powder that is obtained is a free flowing, water soluble powder. This technology is also used in making other water soluble products such as tomato powder, skim milk powder or soup powder.
Our spray dried powders have no added sugar and once dissolved in water, the original juice
is reconstituted retaining most of its natural colour and all of its flavour.
Oleoresins are extracts of dried fruit using alcohol. Oleoresins capture the unique flavour along with the sugar, acids and pigments and therefore preserves the nutritional value of the dried fruit. The range is limited and includes coffee, vanilla, date, fig and apricot. A fruit extract oleoresin is normally a thick viscous product.
The solubility of oleoresins will depend on the fruit - for example, vanilla oleoresin is alcohol
soluble. Oleoresins are significantly more concentrated than spray dried powders. Please
